Flat, reddish-brown, oval insects up to 5mm long . They become swollen and reddish after a blood meal. Mostly active at night when you are sleeping.
What you are up against
Female Bedbugs can deposit one to five eggs per day and can lay upto 300-400 eggs in a lifetime. Under normal room temperatures and with an adequate food supply, they can live for more than 300 days. It is possible that Bed Bugs can carry diseases, however as yet not known to have transmitted diseases to people. Bed Bugs feed exclusively on blood, and people have various responses to Bed Bug Bites.
Signs of Bed Bug Infestation
- Visual sightings of Bedbugs: Adult bed bugs Oval and up to 5mm long and reddish brown in colour.
- Case skins: As the juvenile Bedbugs grow, they shed their skins, discovery of which can indicate their presence.
- Defecation: After feeding, bed bugs return to their harborage to hide where they defecate black to brown stains on surfaces.
- Bites: Red bite marks to various parts of body may also indicate bed bug activity, but further evidence will need to be found, since other sources can cause red marks on human skin.
